Arrival in Stavanger

Team Sevagram, pre-jetlag

August 3rd and August 4th: Hai hai! Greetings from Stavanger! It's been 24 hours since we've landed in Norway after 4 movies and some naps worth of plane rides. After leaving from Dulles in DC, we landed in Frankfurt and finally arrived in Stavanger, Norway where we hit the ground running with a walk through old Stavanger and a boat ride in the fjord of Stavanger port.

To say the views were breathtaking would be an understatement. The photos we took don't do Norway justice. After taking in the sights, we stopped at an island for a private dinner of fish soup, reindeer with potatoes, and panna cotta.

On our second day in Norway, we headed to the Laerdal company to hear some talks about global health initiatives including Helping Babies Breathe, Essential Care for Every Baby, and Helping Mother Survive. We heard a lot of different perspectives on working in low resource settings from Dr. Kidanto and Dr. Thallinger. After another delicious meal, we took tours of the Laerdal lean manufacturing facilities to talk about some of the factors affecting supply chain and material selection. We also got to do some hands on workshops with Laerdal's MOYO and resuscitation masks.

For dinner we went to Utsein abbey to view some historical architecture and listen to Norwegian opera before having dinner in the oldest dining hall in Norway. Utsein has a history of hosting developments for reporting guidelines in emergency resuscitation and traumatology, making it a fitting place to take the newest CBID class.
